We were certainly fortunate to have the opportunity to meet and visit the People of Spain just a few short weeks ago. In fact, we left there on 3/4, just days before the Coronavirus struck its full force. The people of Spain we met left an imprint on Judy and I. They are in our thoughts at this time, as well as all those suffering around the world.
In tribute to them, I am going to change my normal format (as described in my previous post) and post some photos with captions, but very little narrative. As it so happens, I have a bunch more photos to share. I’ll be posting these and more on Instagram (please visit and follow me at sml_photo).
For your information, I have received e-mails from some of the people in these photos and I am hoping that they remain fine.
Note that these photos are all in color. I may do another blog post of only black and white photos in the coming days.
Enjoy the photos and let’s all hope the best for all of us! Shown in chronological order.

Welcome home. Your superb images of Spain are very colorful and thought provoking. Glad you made it home healthy. Nice to see your approach to non black and white images.
Thanks, Stan! So sad to think about how things changed there right after we left. Beautiful country. Friendly people. We’re hoping the best for them…and for all those around the world who are dealing with the virus.
I appreciate your feedback. I hope to get to the black and white images of Spain soon.
Be well!
Your photos bring back such fond memories. We will in Spain in November. I loved Seville. Thanks for sharing. Stay well and safe.
Thanks, Judy. It’s a wonderful place to visit, for sure!
Best wishes!
Thank you Steve for bright, colorful, sunny, and some smiles which we can all use at this time.
I agree…smiles are in order here. I’m afraid it was less cheerful after our visit.
Thanks much, Paul.
I always love your wonderful photographs. Looking forward to more. Say hi, and stay well!
Glad you liked them, Merle. And, yes, more are coming in an upcoming blog post. And, I think I’ll have many posted on Instagram over the next several days.
Hi backatcha. And, also stay well!
It seems like the ladies in the outdoor cafe scene in Madrid might belong in the painting behind them!
Right!? I agree…a nice match between reality and the painting. Thanks for your observation, Audrey!!
That was late at night in Madrid when the streets were full of people socializing and enjoying themselves.
Wonderful vicarious pleasures from your travels. Just love your eye- it’s all the stuff not covered by Rick Steves! Ox
Aw…thanks, Lucy! (Especially since I enjoy Rick Steves’ videos!)
We did enjoy our trip very much. So happy to have the opportunity to share those pleasures.
Spectacular pictures – hoping all these wonderful people are still healthy. Such a fast and devastating change in our world. Glad you saw Spain and super glad you got home safely
Thanks much for your kind words, Eileen.
Yes…we are also concerned about them and all who are suffering throughout the world! Such a shame and a tragedy. It all seemed to happen so quickly in Spain…a matter of days after we left.
What an eye! That shot of the red sports car, its passenger looking up, Goudy architecture positioned perfectly above. And posting all shots in cheerful color, very fitting, especially now. Thanks as always for sharing.
Ha! Glad that you noticed the Gaudí building!! We were across the street and this car pulled up to the stop light. I composed the frame with the woman in the foreground and clicked about 4 or 5 exposures, hoping to catch her expression.
“Cheerful color!” I agree. And, yes, very fitting now.
Thanks, Mike…birthday guy!
Your pictures are gorgeous! I love how you capture the expressions on all the people you photographed. I love all the bright colors in your pictures. Thanks for sharing. These pictures brought back memories from when we visited Spain. Glad you and Judy made it home safe and sound.
Thanks, thanks, thanks! So glad you like the photos.
Yes…we checked out your photos on FB before we went to Spain. Thanks for doing the scouting for us!
Yes…good memories. And, hoping the best for the future there and elsewhere.
Thanks for sharing your excellent views, they are full of life and great!!
Aw, thanks for your comment, Marc. I certainly appreciate your opinions since they come from an excellent photographer.
The ladies at the cafe in Madrid looked like they stepped out of a verbena, a festival.
Wonderful images. Did Judy the shoes Montse was selling? So happy you were able to make the trip.
Yes…we felt there was some sort of festival. I’ll send you a photo taken earlier that evening that kind of gave us an idea that there was some sort of celebration.
Of course, Judy bought shoes from Montse…the ones that she is holding in the photo! haha
So glad you liked the photos. Thanks much!
Lucky me to travel with a talented and passionate photographer.
Memories for a lifetime.
No… It’s LUCKY ME!!
So sweet, Judy.
Your pictures are awesome. You were there at the right time.
Thanks, Sherry.
You betcha! Good timing.
Hoping the best for all of them and everyone else!
Nice- what a wonderful country!
T’is!
Thanks much, Jordan.
Stephen,
You’re pictures brighten up my day, especially now! We were in Barcelona and also saw a “drumming contest”!
What fun! Brings back happy memories! Best wishes to you ,Judy and the whole gang!
It’s nice to hear that my photos brighten your day. THAT brightens my day! Thank you.
Yes…fantastic place to visit. Lots to see and do. Friendly people, good food, scenery, history, etc.
Hi to you and yours, too, Ronna.
I love these colors, especially during this bleak time. That orange from the candy store is my dream color and if I were ever to paint, that would be a big reason!
Yes…beautiful colors abound!! Hard to resist photographing that. (Though I always like B&W, too!)
I agree…the color at the candy store is what attracted my attention as we were walking around very near our hotel in Madrid. The orange is, no doubt, partly due to the incandescent lights inside the store. The guy was very agreeable and friendly.
Thanks for your comment, Dave. Glad you liked the colors. Now…start painting!! haha
Great stuff Stephen, may the day come soon again that we can share the so many things in life we that we enjoy, photography, people, good food, color, music, travel and beyond…….. looking at these shots saddens me to the extent that we are so stuck right now from doing what we love and the days that are getting wasted in some respects. We will not take any of these things for granted forward.
Yes…we have that hope. Gotta keep hoping for the best for everyone.
Thanks, Nate.
Great pictures Stephen. Was Almanzor the local jail?
Thanks so much!
Hmmm…I think Almanzor was a person from the history of the area. Perhaps you mean Alhambra which included a jail of sort on the property, I believe.
Great photos, you really capture beyond their faces.
MUCH appreciated! Glad you like the photo
great photos! my favorite: outdoor cafe, madrid.
Thanks, Berit! Glad you like them.
