Traveling On the Road
Out and About
I love looking around when we’re traveling on the road. Always on the lookout for interesting scenes. No exception last week when we took a little road trip from Indy to Brown County, IN. The stretch between Bean Blossom and Nashville (Indiana) caught my eye. The landscape and buildings almost depict a bygone era. The two buildings above serve as a good example of what I mean. I tinted the photo to enhance its “old time” and antique appearance which is how I perceived the scene in my mind.
Not far away from those two buildings, on the same road, was this home sitting proudly and squarely on its lot. Note the mailbox just off the road which adds to a sense of permanence despite the fact it’s a trailer. Probably not an uncommon scene found on the road in rural America. Nice spot for a home, I might add.
Such a cool sight on the same road, within walking distance. The proud Mennonite Church with strong black and white contrast (even in color!) stood out dramatically on the road. But, I was particularly drawn to the message on the sign which reads, “Strangers Expected.” The sky added to the drama of the scene.
You may have heard about the town called Bean Blossom since there’s a well known Bill Monroe Bean Blossom Bluegrass Music Festival there each year.
Thanks to all of you who follow and subscribe to this blog! It’s fun for me as I hope it is for you, too. I have plans to update things a bit in the coming weeks. Design, layout, overall appearance, etc. Also, easier and more efficient links and subscribing options. And keep an eye on my website which will also be refreshed and updated. I’m hoping there won’t be too many glitches! (Notice I didn’t say “any” glitches.) So, please hang in there with me as things get improved. I’ve got lots of ideas for future posts and topics, too.
Hope to see each other on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, too!
Thanks for stopping by!

How did you arrange the clouds so nicely above the church? Behind the cross were there any clouds that you eliminated?
On your next trip to/in IN, detour through Park County so you can apply your masterful photographic techniques to some/all of the many, old covered bridges there. Or have you covered them already? Or are you not now sure you want to do that, and perhaps will cross that bridge when you get to it?
Try as I may, I don’t think I can arrange any clouds. BUT, I can either wait for them to go where I want OR get lucky.
Or, I could create or clone (or erase) clouds using software, but that’s generally not my style.
Covered bridges….hmmm. Perhaps.
And I’ll save my “pun” response for some other time…down the road.
This may be a strange thought but I wonder what these would look like in early & late winter… maybe I should check out the Mennonites.
This may call for a road trip!!
Not too far away. Hmmm…
Great Eye, Great Captures. “Old Time Look” is an Outstanding image. Sepia toning adds to the impact.
Thanks so much, Stan! I appreciate the kind words. Glad you like the images!
Stephen
This and your other posts on country land and buildings are very strong indeed! Thanks for sharing, as well as for encouraging road trips!
Yes! Road trips can be rewarding, photographically. I suppose they compel us to keep our eyes open to see new things.
I appreciate your feedback very much!
While Stephen walked along the road taking these photos, we (Audrey, Mike, Charlie and I) watched from the car parked on the side of the road. It was fun for us to watch where his eye took him. We all loved the Mennonite Church sign – “Strangers Expected” and appreciate having these photos to remind us of these sites along our drive.
It’s funny…I always wonder what you’re thinking while I’m “focused” on some subject.
Thanks, Judy! We see a lot together!
Always enjoy your excellent posts.
Thanks, John. And I, yours!
