Bahá’í House of Worship
Photo Opp
Wow! We are so lucky to be in the Chicago area. I’d say it’s the most picturesque city I’ve ever seen. Lots of “photo opps.” Here’s a prime example–the Bahá’í House of Worship in Wilmette.
I think most people who live around here have seen this beautiful building on Sheridan Road, across from the Wilmette Harbor. If you haven’t been by lately or haven’t ever stopped by, I want to recommend putting this on your list of things to do. And BRING A CAMERA! Everyone there has one! And there’s a photo opp in every direction.
If you get there and get a photo, perhaps you’d like to post and share it in the comment section of this blog. I’m not sure how it will work, but give it a try and we’ll figure out a way.
You may be surprised at what you see as you walk around the scenic grounds. For example, look below:
And people from all over the world and of all ages. And everyone is so friendly! Not surprising, given the nature, beauty, and serenity of the grounds.
I noticed that there are people there at all times of the day. More visitors on weekends.
Keep in mind that you are allowed inside the building, but are asked to be quiet….and no photographs. Be sure to allow time for a leisurely stroll. And, afterwards, be sure to also stop by about three blocks west on Linden for the best scones in the world at Alchemy Coffee House!
Enjoy!
Thanks for stopping by!

Beautiful place to visit and walk the grounds. Take a stop into the Visitors Center to learn more about the building and the philosophy of Baha’i. The seating by the window or in the courtyard is a lovely place to read in quiet and contemplation. You’ve captured the spirit of the place Stephen!!!
Good point, Judy! Glad you mentioned the Visitor’s Center. I agree with you.
I’m also glad you think I captured the spirit of the place! Thanks.
Lovely views of the temple and surroundings. It’s a rare gem! Thanks for sharing your work.
Thanks for dropping by, Marc.
And, thanks for sharing your work with me, too.

Great Photos!
Thanks, David! And good to see you while you recently.
We ARE so fortunate to be in this area! Lovely pictures, Steve. At least our summer includes June this year! You never know. ?
Yes…it’s so amazing to see this building as we drive along Sheridan Road. Hard to believe it’s right here, so to speak!
And it is a pretty nice June we’re having. I agree.
Thx.
Great pictures!
Aw, thanks, Susanne. Appreciated.
Great pictures!
I miss Chicago especially when I see your pictures.
C’mon back! How long has it been since you’ve been here to visit? It keeps getting nicer.
Beautiful, peaceful place.
You are absolutely correct, Gayle. I totally agree.
Hard to believe it’s in suburban Chicago- so exotic.
It’s amazing to me how it pops up in our view along the drive. We get to see it in all seasons, all lights, etc. And, yes…in suburban Chicago!
We attended a friend’s wedding at Baha’i Temple in the early 70’s. Drive by all the time but never thought about going in. Thank you Stephen, for reminding us, with your amazing photos, what’s right in our own backyard!
I always believe that there’s so much “in our backyard.” Just gotta keep an open mind and an open eye! This is a perfect example.
I saw a few wedding parties there…apparently for photos before the ceremonies. What a great location for things like that!
Glad you like the photos! Thanks, Jackie.
Again gorgeous pictures. I love the narrative you tell about each picture. We are lucky to live in the Chicago area.
And I love the narratives, too! Part of the fun for me.
So glad you like the photos. And we are lucky to live in this area.
Cool pictures!
Glad you think they’re cool! Thx.
Because this has been a fixture in the area for so long & I see it at least once a week, I take it’s powerful presence for granted. So thank you for the reminder. Your pictures did it justice.
Thanks, Dave. And glad that I helped remind you!
These look amazing. So many people don’t even know the Bahá’í House of Worship is open to the public.
Thanks for sharing your artistic vision!
I think you’re right about what people think! They should make a point to stop by for a visit. Really beautiful.
Thanks, Carol.
Stephen, I am a member of the Bahai Faith and so appreciate your capturing the beauty and essence of this House of Worship. It’s nine sided structure symbolizes unity. The House of Worship was built as a gift from Bahai’s to all people. Thus it is open to the public with free admission. Thank you for bringing attention to this unique Chicago treasure and through your photographs showing how people of all faiths and nationalities come here to enjoy a few moments of tranquility and spiritual rejuvenation.
Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving your comments and your insights. It means a lot to me.
Such a beautiful and remarkable gift! I certainly hope more people will be inspired to stop by for a visit.
Gorgeous images of a truly stunning treasure! And right here our own back yard. You’ve really captured both the majesty and the inviting nature of this place. Nice work!
So nice of you, Susan. Thanks.
Yes…we’ve got to remind ourselves how nearby it is and take advantage of that!
GREAT photos, Steve. Such an amazing place!!
Thanks for sharing!!!
I so appreciate it, Carol! Glad you like the photos.
