Back for Another Look
Couldn’t resist
It turns out that Judy and I were back at the same spot as the week before to hear another author speak. This time, it was Colm Tóibín. Some of you may have heard of him.
So, since we were early, I asked Judy if she’d mind if I wandered back to the same tunnel I had photographed the week before….only this time from the other end of the tunnel. I just wanted to see how things looked! As usual, she was agreeable and thought it sounded like a fun idea, so she told me to go ahead.
So…here it is. Pretty much the same, only different. It was a little colder. And there was more “traffic,” so I had a field day shooting various permutations of people going through the tunnel, framed inside the white at the end.
I liked this couple. They looked kinda cute. And the tunnel has more character from this side, including a lot of sand on the ground from the beach which is up the stairs at that end. I also thought the clump of paper added a little interest and mystery.
Hmmm…might have to go back again.
Seems like you just started a new project. Once a month tunnel photos. How or now not does a tunnel change over the course of a year, does that bag remain for a year????
Not a bad idea. I’ve been thinking about a new project. Hmmmm….
Thanks.
Repeated opportunity is always a good thing. Well done.
I agree. And it certainly seems to work well for you!
I usually think of tunnels as a bit scary…. You shine a new light on the subject…they certainly support a narrative as they seem to provide a natural vignette, framing a visual that creates mystery. I will send you some of mine from some of my hikes. The tunnel is an underpass for a local tollway to allow animals (mountain lions, Etc.a crossing into the reserve that I hike).I always approach it carefully!
I think it’s “funny” that this tunnel is under Lake Shore Drive! Kind of belies what’s above ground…
I like your images! Thanks for sending…
Very U & U – urban & urbane (I really hope urbane means what I think it does) Just re-reading about pre-war Berlin and it reminds me of that period (which pre-war period? there are so many choices).
I like that: U&U.
And you can add another U for underground.
The first time I looked at it, I just saw the left half which is d&d (dark & dreary). However, when viewed as a whole, your picture does show light at the end of the tunnel and we presume some sort of optimism. I prefer the d&d but I appreciate your worldview.
Doesn’t the body language of the couple also portray optimism? Their hats, their hands, their step.
I like the shadows on the walls castes from the lights
Great! Glad you liked that. That’s exactly what caught my eye the first time I went there. Eventually, I “focused” on the end of the tunnel, though. Kind of an image inside an image.
